Moscow, February 2, 2010 — Samsung Electronics (South Korea), the General Satellite Corporation (Russia), Platform HD (Russia) start the first in Russia and Eastern Europe joint broadcasting of 3D-channels. It is expected in the medium-term future that 3D-project will be offering a wide range of TV programs, including movies, entertainment shows and sport events.
3D-content is shot by special high definition video cameras. It is then transmitted over existing infrastructure of Platform HD Broadcasting Project.
The new channel can be watched in a 3D format using purposely modified digital satellite receiver HD-9300, which has built-in control systems middleware (CSMW) for operator functioning GS 3.0, developed by the General Satellite Corporation.
Samsung Electronics presented the first 3D TV-sets production samples as far back as 2007. 3D TV-sets by Samsung (models PS42B450B1W, PS42B451B2W, PS50B450B1W, PS50B451B2W) are currently manufactured in Russia at the Samsung plant in Kaluga Region. They are the only 3D TV-set models on the Russian market and are available from the majority of retail chains at the prices between 27990 and 44 990 Russian rubles. Active 3D-glasses SSG2000 model is also available at the price 5 990 Rr. many years of experience in development, leadership in manufacturing and market promotion of 3D Tv-sets and, consequently, availability of quality 3D equipment made Samsung the obvious choice as a partner in the 3D broadcasting Project.
