The switch-off from analogue to digital broadcasting is to be completed in Cambodia by 2015, just like as in Russia. Neak Oknha Kith Meng, Chairman of the Royal Media Entertainment Corporation Limited, stated: “One TV” can contribute to the implementation of analogue to digital switchover policyof the Royal Government of Cambodia, the ASEAN, as well as ITU. With this technology and infrastructure, “One TV” has the capacity to reach up to 70% of the total households who have televisions in Cambodia”
Deputy Minister, Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, H.E. Alexey Malinin: “State-of-the-art modern international technology used by the project is a pledge of its high success.”
Minister of Information, H.E. Mr. Khieu Kanharith, welcomed “One TV” project and private investment in Cambodia. He said: “General Satellite technologies and investments enable to launch in Cambodia a digital project of the next generation. It’s expected to cover up to 70% of the population. Practicing under competition transparency in the free market, I hope that “One TV” will become another choice offering TV viewers a wide range of programs and added-value services.”
Among the key topics of the press-conference there was the General Satellite investment program. Sergey Dolgopolskiy, Foreign Projects Director, General Satellite: «This Cambodian project is a part of the company’s next 5-year technological and investment strategy. General Satellite is planning to launch different broadcasting projects in Pakistan, Bangladesh, other Asian counties, as well as in CIS and the English-speaking Africa, on the basis of our own unique TV-related technologies. The investment program is to result in General Satellite’ launch of broadcasting projects all over the world».
The counterparties declared that the commercial launch is planned for mid-September this year, when the first set-top boxes will start to be distributed in the capital city. Later this autumn the project will go beyond Phnom Penh to expand nationwide. Subscribers will be offered 3 TV-packages at the price $ 3-12.. The number of TV channels offered in one package is up to 60.
The amount of investments is not disclosed, but similar international projects usually account for approximately 15-20 million US dollars as initial investments.
