General Satellite Corporation first took part in the II Asia-Pacific Forum "Russia's presidency in APEC and the new prospects of Russia's integration in the Asia-Pacific Region", held on 12-13 October 2012. The Forum was organized by the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) in partnership with the Russian APEC study center and "International Affairs" magazine.
The forum has become a platform to discuss the best ways of practical implementation of the agreements reached at the APEC summit in 2012. During the event there were held meetings on six sections devoted to cooperation in various areas such as security, energy, logistics, science, telecommunications, etc.
At the meeting "Telecommunications and the infrastructure of communications: perspectives of cooperation between Russia and Asia Pacific" the Deputy director of the Department of Foreign Broadcasting Projects of "General Satellite" Mr. Sharaf Kochkarov made presentation of the corporation activities. As the chairman of Business Council Mr. Ziyavudin Magomedov mentioned: "A year under Russia's chairmanship of APEC has shown that our proposals are supported and in demand. Ahead there are joint actions to promote the initiatives. I am confident that this work will bring good results both to the region as a whole and to our economy".
Among the forum participants were leaders of specialized scientific research centers (RAS Institute of Far Eastern Studies, Council for Foreign and Defense Policies, Carnegie Moscow Center), the FMS senior staff, Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia, news agency "RIA Novosti". The reports were presented by professors of the world's leading universities, such as University of Washington, Seoul National University, Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs, St. Petersburg State University, Far Eastern Federal University, Gadjah Mada University (Indonesia), Hokkaido and Hosei Universities (Japan), managers and employees of "Russian Technologies", "Rosatom", FGC UES, Toyo Engineering, Oxfam, Deutsche Bank. The event was also attended by the diplomats and representatives of business circles, thereby creating all necessary conditions for an informal exchange of experience and opinions.
Guests of the forum discussed various issues, such as the evident lack of Russian territory use for the transit of cargo from Europe to Asia and back, length of custom procedures in the Russian Far Eastern ports, especially compared with the ports of Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, issue of food security technology transfer, mineral resources export to China and other Asian countries. "The Asia-Pacific region is one of the main geopolitical priorities of Russia. Thanks to the active work of the representatives of Russia in APEC Business Council not only during the summit, but also throughout the year of our chairmanship our agenda was very specific and meaningful ", - concluded the head of the RIAC Mr Igor Ivanov.
