The GS Group international investment and industry holding company launched an international physics contest for high school students of non-capital Russian cities. The contest is held from September 8 to December 7, 2014. The winners will receive special personalized scholarships for one academic year.
One of the GS Group holding company key objectives is to revive and develop the national science in the field of microelectronics and nanotechnology through support of talented professionals. It is provided by educational programs, including cooperation with the Immanuel Kant Baltic federal university, the largest educational center of the Kaliningrad region, as well as by contests for high school students.
Physics contest is arranged specially for high school students of non-capital Russian cities and neighboring countries. This is due to the fact that talented high school students from non-capital regions often have fewer chances to enter the leading universities in their countries. At the same time it is well-known that residents of other Russian cities are required to get higher passing grade to win admission to higher education institutions of Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Contest, established by GS Group, allows talented high school students from non-capital cities approve themselves and motivates them to study in the leading technical institutions in Russia and abroad. Students of 9th and 11th grades of secondary schools are allowed to participate. Winners-graduates will receive personalized study bursaries for one academic year, provided the admission to universities for the professions that are in demand in Technopolis GS, innovation territorial cluster in the Kaliningrad region. Upon completion of training specialists can undertake an internship and to stay and work in one of the six European-class high-tech industries, included in the cluster. Winners of 9th and 11th grades will obtain prizes essential for study, – laptops, PC’s and telecommunication devices manufactured by GS Group under the General Satellite brand.
Contest for high school students includes two extramural rounds and a face-to-face final round. Thus, the largest number of students from different countries can take part in the qualifying stages. Final round will be held in the town of Gusev, Kaliningrad region, on the territory of Technopolis GS. Besides participation in the contest, students will have the opportunity to visit the unique innovation cluster and its facilities, and to choose the future place of employment.

GS Group has arranged the first international math contest for senior high school students from non-capital cities in 2013. Over 4500 students from Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Estonia and Sweden participated. According to results, five of the six winners were enrolled in higher education institutions for professions which are top-priority for the holding company.
