GS Group holding has held a round table round table “Initialization and support of innovative projects and R&D in television”on October 3, 2013   within the VI St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum.

The event has brought together an interesting audience: technology providers, representatives of pay TV operators, TV channels and Internet-TV, rectors of high school institutions specialized in the telecommunication field.

The round table at Innoforum has brought up a vital issue of interaction between science and business today. A lot should be done to unite efforts of Russia’s high school and business and strengthen their connections for searching, developing and promoting innovations in technology.

Alexander Peregudov, Director, Media Technology Institute, Saint Petersburg State University of Cinema and Television welcomed the idea of business making connections with the students as early as during the second year of their education. He said business communities should take an active part in education, make up laboratories. Alexander Buchatsky, Director, Video information and multimedia technology Center, Saint Petersburg State University of Telecommunications, noted that right now they are ready to share projects developed jointly with students in university media laboratories. He added that it is key to support those students who are able to start projects.

Science, education and business need to establish cooperation, break stereotypes and find new mechanisms of interaction necessary in modern world. Currently business lacks talented and promising staff despite of huge offer. It’s venture funds that help build a bridge between science and business.

GS Venture, the venture projects department of GS Group holding, has introduced program for financing high-tech startups.

“We managed to establish necessary contacts during the round table”, said Sergey Filimonov, Head of GS Venture department, GS Group. “We hit the target: our presentation reached the audience we needed, directly the people who take interest in venture projects within TV industry who have something to contribute for its development in Russia. We hope that such round tables, starting relevant discussions and bringing together the interested sides, will continue to help build up mechanisms of cooperation between science and business”.
