GS Group, multi-industry international hi-tech holding originating from Russia, has proposed a specific list of measures that are believed to help Russian microelectronics industry enter international market within the WTO. At the conference «Strategy of Russian business within the WTO» organized by the leading Russian business newspaper «Vedomosti», federal ministers, experts and representatives of business community have summed up the outcomes of the first year of Russia’s membership in the World Trade Organization.
Participants have discussed the measures taken by Russian government to support and protect domestic producers in different sectors in the context of Russia's entry in the World Trade Organization and the degree of their effectiveness. Representatives of GS Group have voiced a number of possible steps that the holding considered effective to support domestic microelectronics industry.
«One of the main factors that will help Russian microelectronics go global, as we believe, is increasing governmental support of the industry by analogy with the way it is implemented in the EU and South-East Asian countries which are leaders in this sphere», — Andrey Bezrukov, GS Group Marketing Director commented. «For example, it can be implemented in the form of annual subsidies to target competitive manufacturers, financial support for R&D or by creating incentives for starting production in the field of consumer electronics in the territory of Russia».
Besides, the company proposed to simplify the customs formalities referring to components for production of microchips and certification of products, as well as significantly reduce the duty on modern equipment for microelectronics manufacturing. «Growth of Russian microelectronics is closely related to the development of other industries. Such meetings help to promote cooperation between government and business. They are, of course, very necessary and efficient», — said Mr. Bezrukov.
