The GS Group holding company announced a contest "Paper boom" for school students of the village of Dedovichi, Pskov region, Russia. The contest is carried out within the international social action World Paper Free Day that is held on October 23, 2014 across the globe.
It is the second time the GS Group investment and industry holding company participates in the international social action World Paper Free Day. The holding company announced kids’ creative contest "Paper boom". School students of three age groups – 7 to 9, 10 to 12 and 13 to 16 years old – are invited to go in for the contest. They are suggested to do crafts using plain paper. Participants are limited only by their imagination and the requirement for applied materials. All works must be made of used newspapers, magazines, school exercise books or cardboard packaging.
Directors of studies of the educational institutions accept entries until October 20. All handcrafted items must contain the author name, name of the educational institution and the class, contact phone number and e-mail address along with name and contacts of the classroom teacher. Nine winners, three in each age category, will be announced according to the results of the art contest and will be awarded by the contest organizer GS Group.
The winners will be announced on October 23 at the awards ceremony, which will be held at the school No. 2 in the village of Dedovichi. All the participants will have a chance to take part in an exciting master class on paper recycling held within the World Paper Free Day campaign. They will learn to produce colored paper from old newspapers and magazines, and will also make postcards from discarded scraps. Workshops will be held with the assistance of the Art&Life studio of handicraft.
In addition, teachers of the Art&Life and guest volunteers of the Russian interregional ecological nonprofit organization ECA will explain to school students the importance of secondary paper use for forest conservation and environmental situation on the planet. Thus, students will learn that one person produces on average 160 kg of waste papers annually, while global annual consumption of paper entails destruction of almost 800 million trees. And the volume of deforestation is in large excess over the volume of its natural recovery.
World Paper Free Day is an initiative that encourages people and businesses across the globe to go paper free for one day. It is aimed to draw attention to protection of nature and preservation of ecological balance on the planet due to the rational paper use. GS Group supports this activity within the corporate social responsibility program.
