The 5th International Contest “I’m solving Math!” officially started on September 11, 2018. The contest is sponsored by the Project runner, GS Group investment and manufacturing holding, and urges 9-11 grade students from remote cities and towns to put their knowledge to test and compete for valuable awards and annual scholarships. The latter are to be given to the contest winners providing they choose to master various technical fields further in educational institutions.
As usual, the 5th International Contest “I’m solving Math!” is subdivided into three steps: two online tours and one one-site final held in January, 2019 within the premises of the Technopolis GS innovative cluster.
9-11 grade students from remote cities and towns (excluding Moscow and Saint Petersburg) are welcome to take part in the contest as well as students from countries across the former Soviet Union and beyond. 10 winners are selected according the contest results. The 9-11 grade students will be given valuable awards such as electronic devices and scholarships in the Presidential Saint Petersburg Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239. The most gifted 11 grade students will be awarded with GS Group holding monthly scholarships. The latter are to be given to the winners providing they choose to master various GS Group curated technical fields such as Information technologies, Applied Mathematics and Physics, Electronics and Microelectronics, Radio electronics, Telecommunications, Nanomaterials and more.
To take part in the contest one has to register on the official contest website and handle assigned tasks. The first online tour will be held from September 11 to November 11, 2018. According to the results, 1000 students with top scores will procced to the second online tour held from November 20 to November 30, 2018. 40 most outstanding students will face each other in the finals on January 19-20 within the premises of the Technopolis GS innovative cluster in Gusev, Kaliningrad oblast. Complementary to the contest itself, the finalists will be able to admire the Kaliningrad oblast sights, explore the one-of-a kind Russian mass production facility of electronics, converse with the judges and special guests – distinguished mathematicians, experts in advanced technologies, honored public figures of science and education. The winners and their companions’ transportation, accommodation and food supplies are provided by the project runner. The results announcement and award ceremony are held on January 20, 2019 within the Technopolis GS premises.
The Math Contest for remote cities and towns students is considered to be one of the core GS Group educational initiatives with the aim to popularize technical educational fields among the teens and make them build up the skills in demand for advanced technologies majors.

4,983 students from 77 various regions took part in the Math Contest last year representing Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Poland, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, China, Serbia, Mongolia, Kirgizstan, Uzbekistan and Moldova. 1,193 students got the highest scores in the first tour. 41 students proceeded to the finals with 4 9-10 grade students and 6 11 grade students being the winners. Students from 9 and 11 grades were awarded with electronic devices and scholarships in the Presidential Saint Petersburg Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239. Having passed the admission tests for technical majors, five finalists were given GS Group scholarships.
More than 18,000 students have participated in the GS Group International Math Contest since 2013.
