International physics contest winners announced

On December 6, 2014 the school №3 of the town of Gusev, Kaliningrad region hosted the final round of the International physics contest for school students from non-capital cities. 10 school students from five Russian regions were declared winners. The town of Saransk, Republic of Mordovia, acted as the absolute leader: six finalists live in the urban district.

Based on the results of the third face-to-face round of the International physics contest for school students from non-capital cities, the organizers decided ten winners: five graduates – Kirill Zaruba (Taganrog), Georgy Korepanov (Saransk), Igor Wilkin (Chelyabinsk), Nikita Gladkov (Tomsk) and Victor Tyasin (Saransk); three tenth-graders – Ilya Zykov (Saransk), Artem Egerev (Saransk) and Maxim Eliseev (Saransk), and two ninth-graders – Julia Malankina (Saransk) and Adelina Imamutdinova (Republic of Bashkortostan).

According to the contest rules, eleventh-graders will get personalized scholarships for one academic year from GS Group provided they enter the relevant higher education institutions for professions that are in demand in Technopolis GS. Last year five of six winners of the similar math contest arranged by the holding company were admitted to the field-specific universities for such professions and are receiving a monthly year-long material support. Scholarship holders who will successfully complete training can be further employed by the high-tech enterprises included in the innovation cluster Technopolis GS.

Winners from among school students of 9 and 10 grades also received prizes from the organizer – Apple MacBook Air laptops and certificates to install the set of Tricolor TV equipment. Next year the elder school students will have a chance to take part in the yet another international educational contest arranged by the GS Group holding company to compete for the personalized scholarships.

Participants of the final face-to-face round of the International physics contest had to perform the tasks based on the Russian comprehensive school program in physics. The contest jury involved experts from Saint Petersburg State University, Saint Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, Saint Petersburg State Electrotechnical University, Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia and others.

Organizing International physics contest for school students from Russian non-capital cities, neighboring countries and beyond is a part of a large-scale career guidance policy conducted by the GS Group holding company to attract and support highly professional young specialists. School students from regions often have fewer opportunities to get a quality higher education in the Russian leading universities in comparison to their counterparts from the capital city, and need financial support for further training and development of their skills. Personalized annual scholarship motivates school students to enter the leading higher educational institutions for technical professions that are in demand not only in Technopolis GS, but in the country as a whole.
