Moscow, February 3, 2010 — Samsung Electronics (South Korea) and the General Satellite Corporation (Russia) signed the Agreement on a start of a joint 3D-project and cooperation in development and manufacture of TVs with built-in satellite tuner for the largest Russian satellite TV operator "Tricolor TV" and HDTV satellite broadcast operator "Platform HD".
The first part of the Agreement is about providing customers with the necessary technical means for viewing 3D-television.
A new 3D-Broadcasting Agreement, which will define schedules for new products and services, production volumes, cost and other conditions, will soon be signed on the basis of the Agreement on Cooperation.
"We are sure that our solutions in the area of television technologies R&D, already successfully implemented, our experience of cooperation with the world leader in the area of telecommunications, Samsung Electronics, form a foundation for a farther integration of our products with foreign broadcasting projects", – Mr. Andrey Tkachenko, the President of the General Satellite Corporation, believes.
The second part of the Agreement provides for the cooperation in the area of development and configuration of the Samsung TV-sets with built-in satellite tuner with MPEG4 support in order to make them compatible with the largest Russian satellite television operator "Tricolor TV" and satellite HD-broadcasting operator "Platform HD".
The General Satellite Corporation intends to use DRE conditional access system and the only Russian control systems middleware (CSMW) for operator functioning GS 3.0.
Inclusion of CAM-modules, sertified for DRE Crypt 3.3 encryption, as well as of access cards for digital satellite TV "Tricolor TV" and "Platform HD", is currently being considered.

The signing of the Agreement on Cooperation and production of digital satellite receivers under the Samsung DRE 8301 brand in January 2010 was the first step in the development of cooperation between the two companies. The receiver will support DRE conditional access system and the only Russian control systems middleware (CSMW) for operator functioning GS 3.0, developed by the General Satellite Corporation. New receiver model will allow Samsung Electronics and the largest satellite operator "Tricolor TV" to become partners. Satellite receivers will be manufactured at the “Digital Television Systems Research and Production Association” plant (Gousev, Kaliningrad region), largest modern digital set-top box production facility in Europe. The plant is a contract manufacturer of radio-electronic equipment, it supports a full production cycle. The "Digital Television Systems Research and Production Association” is a full member of the Radio-Electronic Equipment Manufacturers and Traders Association.
The General Satellite Corporation and Samsung Electronics began at the same time to implement the 3D-project, which allowed for a number of related technical issues to be resolved. As a result, digital satellite broadcasting of 3D channels was launched for the very first time in Russia and Eastern Europe, using the "Platfrom HD" project capacities, on February 2, 2010.
